This I Believe…

I believe that hard work is the road to success.  The only way to get somewhere in life, whether it is a job, social, academic, or any thing else pertaining to life, is hard work.  When people do not work hard enough and fail at something they still need to work hard to get back from that failure.  This belief certainly pertains to sports, for instance when a team loses a game they need to work harder the next day in practice to get better and achieve success in the next game.  Maybe they don’t win the next game, but they at least need to try to lose by less.  If a team keeps working hard they can soon win.  Another example would be in business, when someone starts a small business from nothing they have to work hard to keep their business running.  Often in the business world many people do not work hard enough to run their business and expand so they fail.  People who make new businesses need to be able to overcome the starting struggle to then make some profit a few years after they started the business in the first place.  Teenagers in high school that are ready to move on to college one day also need to work very hard in high school to get a good education and good grades that they can then go on to a college.  All of these examples can lead to success, but when someone finally is successful they need to keep working hard to continue being successful or to move onto the next stage of success.  Even after the high school student is successful in getting into college they need to work harder in college to get a job, so the different stages need hard work also.  People need to take advantage every moment they have in life to do something productive.  When people work hard for a long time it is good to have fun, but it is important not to have too much fun or work too hard.  It would not be good if you wore yourself out from working too hard.  It would also not be good if you had too much fun all of the time, since hard work is the road to success you need to have a balance between fun and work.  The balance is key to becoming successful.  For instance, for anyone going to school, they cannot just be doing schoolwork from the time they get up until the time they go home; they need to do something extracurricular after school along with socializing.  These fun activities do not hurt the person’s ability to work hard, or even stop them from doing a lot of work.  It may even make the person work more efficiently, because the other things they do besides work would get their mind of work for a little while.  There are no shortcuts on the road to success; all that somebody needs to do is work hard.
