Olaudah Equiano was one of the most important people of Africa involved in the British debate of the slave trade. He also wrote an autobiography on the horrors of slavery and helped influence British lawmakers to eliminate the slave trade in 1807. He was a slave when he is young, he was also a seaman, merchant and explorer in South America, the Caribbean, the American colonies, and Britain. The counter cultural figure that i found is that people in the 80s were racist to the black people, because they were once slave, and so people just treat them and looked down upon them as slaves. And slave is like the White people's first impression to the Blacks. What I see, is that this author wrote about how he thinks of slave being treated by the White people, and what their feelings were. He also helped the British lawmakers to eliminate the slave trade and treat them more as human and more equally. This African writer had a similar case like Phillis Wheatly. They both were once slave and born in Africa. They both proved that the white people’s perspective on the Blacks and slaves are wrong, because they thought that black people are slaves, and they are not able to do anything, learn anything. But both of them, showed that Black people can write really good books, they care about each other, its just the same as normal people, and they are normal people, but its just because they have different color skin, which people think they are evil.
