Teaching Assistants support the Leadership program faculty in the 9th and 10th grade leadership courses.
Any rising junior or senior is eligible to apply to become a teaching assistant in the leadership program, and the TAs will be assigned to work with a specific 9th or 10th grade leadership class. All TAs have experience as students in the classes they teach.
TAs are paired with a faculty member, and they work with the same class of students the entire year. Usually, two TAs work together with the same class. They earn an academic credit, and also receive a letter grade each term.
Desired skills and qualities:
*Have a sincere interest in leadership and our program, and an interest in teaching
*be a positive force in your current Leadership class
*good communication skills: interacting with both adults and students, seeking out feedback
* team player: flexible, able to work with others (not just individually)
*active citizen on and off campus
* willing to take initiative: generate lesson ideas, step up in class when needed
Application process and timeline
1- Fill out a written application- BEFORE spring break- by March 4
2- Interview with a current TA and Leadership teacher- by April 15
3- recommendations from current leadership teacher and TAs- by April 15
4- decisions made by a committee of leadership teachers- by May 1
