Student Council

The student council is led by our student body President and Vice President. These two leaders oversee the workings of the student council by planning and chairing weekly meetings.

The senior class has a President, Vice President and Treasurer. They also have boarding and day student representatives. The class elects all five positions.

There is only one elected position in grades 9, 10 and 11: Class President. The Class Presidents are joined by members of an officer council (OC) for each grade. Members of OC are appointed as a result of their interest and demonstrated commitment to student government.

Members of student government should be willing to serve as a sounding board for students and faculty who have concerns or suggestions. They should serve as role models for all students, demonstrating school pride and appropriate behavior in all pursuits. They are expected to encourage pride and cohesion in their class and should strive to motivate others to participate.

In order for students to be eligible for class president and/or OC, they must attend all student council meetings, which occur on Tuesday evenings. They must also participate in weekly committee meetings. These are scheduled for times when all those participating can meet. (Breakfast is often considered.)

Student government provides an excellent opportunity for Suffield students to build their leadership skills. It is a key component in our student life program and school culture.
